GOAR, GORE, KELLER, KIMBER posted by Catherine Mintz on Friday, November 21, 1997

I posted a message back in June for a friend who does not have internet access, and I now have some addtional information. He is trying to locate other living members of his family. His grandmother, Grace Maude GOAR, was born in Rice county in 1876; she married George William KIMBER, who was born in 1865 in Henrytown, MN. My friend's grandmother was herself the granddaughter of Judge Joseph GOAR of Morristown, MN, and the second great-granddaughter of Henry GOAR and Anne Catherine KELLER GOAR. He also tells me that it is at about the time that Anne GOAR was born that the family appears to have split into those using GOAR, and others who preferred to spell the family name GORE.

BENNETT, COCHRAN, COWAN, ROBERDS posted by Carol Fender on Thursday, December 11, 1997

William ROBERDS settled in Faribault, MN in 1855. I believe it was Wells Township then. He built a sawmill on the shores of Lake Chedeweta, which was later named Roberds for him. He married twice; first to Sarah BENNETT and the second time to Sarah (COWAN) COCHRAN, widow of John Cochran. William was born in either North Carolina or Ohio, migrated to Indiana and then to MN. Any information about these people or families is welcome.

ALBERS posted by Peter Geoffrey Albers on Sunday, December 21, 1997

I was looking at the Rice County Website here on the USGenWeb and I noticed that my family surname is not listed here so I thought that I might submit the ALBERS surname to the Rice County registry of surnames as you might know the Albers's were the early pioneers who came and settled in the Bridgewater Township also known as the City of Northfield in the 1850's. My second cousin once removed Kathryn Albers Ludwig and her husband Hank still own the Albers farm which was also built outside of Northfield by Fredreich Albers who is two patriarchs of the family around 1855 and the other one which his brother Henry Albers was one of the first mayors of Bridgewater Township built his farm across the road from Fredreich about the same time. Diane Albers who being a descendent of Henry Albers went on to being Miss Minnesota in the late 1950's. Also you might know of the Albers Park on the shores of Union Lake outside of Northfield, which also was named for the in honor of the Albers Pioneers. Fredreich however was my great-great-great grandfather had 5 children which were : Henry 1845-1928 Margaret 1847-1913 William 1850-1908 Frederick 1852-1916 John R. Albers 1854-1926 Heinrich Carl 1857-1939 August E. 1861-1878 I was the descendant of John R. Albers. I have a lot of the information on the Albers Family that I can submit to the Rice County GenWeb going back as far as 1855. I have very little information on Adelaide Meyers Albers the mother of Fredreich except that I know that she came from Sulingen,Germany where the Albers farm in Germany still is and that she was born in 1792 but that is as far back as I have been able to go so far. I hope that I can be of more service to the Rice County GenWeb for the Albers Family.

SAVAGE, Timothy, b. ca1827 Ireland, d. 25Aug1906 Faribault, Rice Co., MN. m. 2Feb1862 Hartland, McHenry Co., IL to OBRIEN, Margaret, b. 4Oct1841 Springfield, Hamden Co., MA. d. 11Dec1934 Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN. Children b. Hartland / Harvard IL; Margaret, Elizabeth, Ellen 'Nellie', Hanora 'Anna', Kathryn, Alice, Charlotte, Mary, Julia. Children b. It is likely that Timothy was born in or around Skibbereen, Cork Co., Ireland and immigrated to the US around 1858, settling in the Hartland / Harvard IL area then moving to the Shieldsville / Faribault area around 1878. He is believed to have had SAVAGE relatives and friends from Skibbereen living in the Rice Co. area, both prior to and during his life there, some may have preceded him as early as 1850.
